Arline M. (Mrs. Elmer) Petersen, 93, of DeWitt, Iowa, formerly of Elvira, Iowa, died Friday morning, July 11, 2014, at Westwing Place, DeWitt.

Mrs. Petersen was born Arline Marian Dierks, January 7, 1921 at rural Bryant, Iowa, to Ernest and Ella (Aude) Dierks. Arline graduated from Clinton High School. On January 24, 1940, she was united in marriage to Elmer Albert Petersen in Clinton, Iowa. The couple farmed in rural Clinton County for many years. They moved to DeWitt in 1978. While in DeWitt, Arline was employed in the food service department at Central Community Schools. Elmer preceded Arline in death on October 12, 2006.

She was a longtime member of Elvira Zion Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid. Arline was very family oriented and a devoted farmwife. She enjoyed caring for her flowers, was a wonderful cook and a loving wife, mom, grandma and great-grandma.

Surviving are children, David (Diane) Petersen of Goose Lake, Iowa, Larry (Jeanora) Petersen and Bonnie Dahl of Clinton, Iowa, Loren (Karen) Petersen of DeWitt; grandchildren, Chad (Jena) Petersen, Kristi (Matt) Heiberger, Bradley (Sara) Petersen, Brett Petersen and Heather (Rick) Maas; great-grandchildren, Blake and Kayden Petersen and Ben and Emma Heiberger; nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Elmer, Arline was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Cherie Petersen; a son-in-law, Greg Dahl; her parents and siblings, Don Dierks, Delbert Dierks and Lavone Lehman.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. Sunday, July 13, 2014. A Service of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 14, 2014, at Elvira Zion Lutheran Church with the Rev. Jealaine Marple officiating. Burial will follow at Elvira Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Chad Petersen, Matt Heiberger, Bradley Petersen, Brett Petersen and Rick Maas.
