Eugene J. Thomsen age 83 of Miles passed away Saturday, May 17, 2014 at his home. Cremation rites have been accorded. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 9:00 A.M. until 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, May 21st at the Faith Lutheran Church in Andover. A memorial service will begin at 10:30 A.M. Burial will be at the Miles Cemetery. The Pape Funeral Home, Clinton, is assisting the family.

Eugene was born in Clinton on August 14, 1930, the son of John A. and Vera (Jackson) Thomsen. He graduated from Miles High School in 1948. Eugene married JoAnn Watters on January 1, 1951 in Clinton. He was a farmer and had also been a partner with Del and Brent Christiansen as owners and operators of Feeders Supply Company in Miles. Eugene was a member of Faith Lutheran Church where he was active in the church council and had served as treasurer. He was a member of the Clinton County Extension Council and the Clinton County Cattlemen’s Association. He loved farming and raising calves to sell at the Chicago Cattle Market. He was a charter member of the Great River Threshers.

Eugene is survived by his wife JoAnn; three daughters, Peggy (Allen) Gerdes of Lebanon, IL, Kimberly (Michael) Cummings of Sabula and Jill (Michael) Thompson of Houston, TX; seven grandchildren, Matthew (Sandi) Gerdes, Luke Gerdes, Ryan Cummings, Jenna (Keith) Jensen, Chad Reynolds, Ashley (Chris) Beers and Cole Thompson; four great grandchildren, Anastasia, Landen, Brooklyn, and Kaylin; and a sister, Betty (Harold) Koch of Sabula. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Myrna and Velma. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com.
