Gilbert L. "Steve" Stephenson, 81, of DeWitt, Iowa, died late Monday evening, April 14, 2014, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa.

Gilbert Leroy Stephenson was born January 1, 1933 to Harold and Selena (Howard) Stephenson. He graduated from What Cheer, Iowa, High School and received various technical training. On Christmas Eve, December 24, 1956, he was united in marriage to Patty Bennett in Lexington, Kentucky. Steve served in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged on February 28, 1961. Gil worked for the What Cheer Clay Pottery Plant for nearly 15 years; and later John Deere Harvester Works in East Moline, Illinois, until retirement in 1992.

Gil was a member of the Noon Lions and was a longtime member of Springbrook Country Club. He enjoyed playing cards, golfing, fishing, tending bar at Murf's and spending time with his family and friends.

Surviving are his wife, Patty; a daughter, Nylia Secia of DeWitt; a son-in-law, Tony Kopf of DeWitt; grandchildren, Amanda Vaske, Elijah Mohr, Meghann (Tim) Welch, Shayla Lippens, Mark (Denise) Secia and Rachel Kopf great-grandchildren, Madilyn, Mallory, Morgan, Maddox, Camryn, Aryanna, Gavin, Sophie, Bentley and Marshall.

Preceding him in death were a daughter, Becki; a grandson, Eric; his parents; a brother, Ed and an infant sister.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friday, April 18, 2014. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 19, 2014, in the Funeral Home. Burial and military rites will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.
