Clinton Morning Age Wednesday August 8, 1894 Mrs. J.Q. Jefferies Called From Home Without Warning Sunshine of happiness and prosperity open each day and all nature seems atune with joy and gladness. The happiest spot on earth is home, when the circle is unbroken, but without warning a cloud comes suddenly from the storm center of sadness, gloom encompasses us, and there seems to be no joy in all nature. So we find J.Q. Jefferies today, for in the midst of one of the happiest days of his happy family the hand of death came unannounced and laid its chilling finger on the nable wife, the devout and just mother, and the home is all sadness today. The shock was felt all over the city among the many friends, so unexpected was it. Mrs. Jefferies, desiring to assist her husband, whom she nearly worshipped, had been attending to all the family cares this summer and giving her whole time to this and her family cares this summer and giving her whole times to this and her family of four little ones. She seemed in unusual good health, and was happy all day long. Tuesday she busied herself about the duties of the home after serving dinner, then, dressing the three little ones, gave them into the hand of many Fred, now about eleven, saying, "it is your turn to to visiting today, Freddie, and you can take the children and go down to Mrs. Sylvanus' to spend the afternoon." The children went away happy, with the mother's kiss, and she again resumed her dities. John, who had not been feeling well, had, by some strange power of providence, remained at home. Even after the usual time he lingered about the house, and well it was or the noble woman would have died alone, in sight of hundreds of friends, for about 3 or 3:30 o'clock an attack of heart failure came on and in a short half hour she had gone to her reward, even before assistance could reach her. Some twelve years ago she gave her love to J.Q. Jefferies, and amid reverses in fortune, through sickness, as well as in prosperity, their happiest moments were when together. Fred, the first born, was quite a boy when Lyle, now four and a half was born, then came Carl, now about three, and to complete the circle, the little sunbeam daughter, a year and a half old, whom they named diana - happy children, all of them and a happy home. The funeral arrangement have not yet been perfected, but the ofsequies will probably occur from the house about 4 Thursday.
