Gerald “Jerry” T. Laufenberg, 71, of Clinton, passed away, Friday, March 21, 2014 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics – Iowa City, Iowa.

A Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am, Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 9:00am to the mass time Tuesday at the church. Military Honors will be conducted by the Clinton AMVETS Post #28. His body will be cremated following the services. Additional visitation and memory sharing opportunity will be held at the luncheon following the mass at St. Boniface Hall.

Gerald Thomas Laufenberg was born on March 2, 1943 in Sparta, Wisconsin, the son of Bernard and Theresa (Weiner) Laufenberg. He graduated from Tomah High School in 1961. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force from 1961-1965. After being discharged he attended the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, Clinton Community College, and the University of Iowa.

Jerry married Denise Bassler on December 17, 1966 at Saint Lawrence Catholic Church – Otter Creek, Iowa.

Jerry was employed with the Chicago Northwestern / Union Pacific Railroad from September 1969 until retiring in 2003 as a trainman.

Jerry was a member of Prince of Peace Parish and the Knights of Columbus St. Edwards Council #707. He was an avid sports fan and especially a die-hard Chicago Cubs, Green Bay Packers and Iowa Hawkeye fan.

Jerry is survived by his wife: Denise of Clinton; four sons: Christopher (Monica) Laufenberg of Clinton, Douglas (Staci) Laufenberg of Castle Rock, Colorado, Dominic (Kelly) Laufenberg of Brandon, Florida, and John (Rachel) Laufenberg of Morton, Illinois, 9 grandchildren; two sisters: Doris Martin of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and Elizabeth Forbish of Clinton; one brother: Arthur (Diana) Laufenberg of Clinton; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister and two brothers.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be directed to the family to be divided between the Prince of Peace Scholarship Fund or the Prince of Peace Parish Hall Building Fund.
