Irvin J. Gluesing age 85 of Goose Lake passed away Friday, March 14, 2014 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at Elvira Zion Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until the service time Thursday at the church. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family. Burial will be in Elvira Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Christopher, Mike and Alec Gluesing, Brent Caven, Travis and Jim Reafsnider and Luke Grantz. Honorary casket bearers will be Rodney Gluesing, David Schroeder, David Grantz and Leon McGarry.

Irvin was born on December 23, 1928, the son of Henry and Hattie (Martensen) Gluesing. He was raised and lived his entire life in the “Plugtown” area. He married Cherol L. Burde on August 19, 1951 Cherol passed away on May 27, 2012. Irvin farmed the family farm from the 1940’s until retiring. He also did custom corn shelling from 1966 to 2013.

Irvin was a member of the Elvira Zion Lutheran Church. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed playing cards and was known for his dry sense of humor and quick wit.

Irvin is survived by five children, Dean (Gail) Gluesing of Clarence, IA, Julie Russell of Wichita, KS, Dale (Kelly) Gluesing of Goose Lake, Jerry (Kris) Gluesing of Camanche and Larry (June) Gluesing of Haysville, KS; 11 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; a brother, Rodney (Janice) Gluesing of Low Moor and a sister, Elaine Papagni of Clinton.
