Virgil H. “Walleye Ike” Eickert, Sr. age 86 of Marshalltown, IA, formerly of Clinton, died Monday March 17, 2014 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. Funeral services will be held10:30 AM Friday at the Pape Funeral Home, Clinton. Visitation will be held Thursday 5 - 7 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Peter Holmes, Dillon Gonyier, Seth, Reece, Marcus Eickert. Honorary pallbearers will be his granddaughters, Becky, Danika, Delaney, and Deja. Virgil was born on Jan. 10, 1928 in Elk River Township, Clinton County, Iowa, the son of Walter and Lucinda (Schroeder) Eickert. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict from 1951-1953. He was married to Jean Hendricks. He later married Wanda Sparlin on Dec. 29, 1961 in Moline, IL, she died in 2010. He was a farmer, where he hauled cattle to Chicago, IL, Clinton Corn Processing for 23 years, and truck delivery for the Clinton Herald. He enjoyed fishing, especially catching walleyes from Lake Winnie in Minnesota, his gardening, where he was proud of his tomatoes and other vegetables, and listening to polka music. He was an avid Minnesota Vikings and Gophers fan.

Virgil is survived by six children, Diane (Ron) Holmes of Clinton, Steve Eickert of Denali, AK, Dawn Eickert of Clinton, Herman (Rachel) Eickert Jr., Dr. Frederick Eickert of West Union, IA, and Shawn (Nikki) Eickert of Clinton; 5 grandsons and 4 granddaughters; three sisters, Bernadine (Lyle) Cornilsen of Miles, IA, Geraldine (Harlan) Miller of Teeds Grove, IA, and Joan Paulsen of Clinton; and a sister-in-law, Jenean Eickert of Miles, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Tammy, two brothers, Harvey and Wilbert Eickert, and a sister, Arlene Pretz.
