David Holleran Dies in Jet Plane Crash Tragedy Near Air Force Base One of Two Men Who Lost Lives Less than one week before his scheduled discharge from the U.S. air force, Lt. David F. Holleran, 25, son of Atty. and Mrs. Paul B. Holleran of Clinton, was killed Sunday night in the crash of a jet training plane near Greenville, Miss. Greenville air force base officials said Holleran and 2nd Lt. Ronald Van Lengen, 22, of Homestead, Fla., who also was killed, were returning from a proficiency operating flight at the time of the crash. They said they were uncertain as to the cause of the crash or who was the pilot of the T33 trainer. No other details of the tragedy are expected to be released pending completion of an investigation already in progress. Lt. Holleran's parents were vacationing at the summer home near Minocqua, Wis., when notified of the accident. They immediately flew to Greenville, where their son's wife and two children reside. At press time no word had been receivedn as to funeral arrangements. Lt. Holleran was born Jan. 28, 1932, in Clinton. He was graduated from Clinton high school in 1950 and received a BSC degree from the University of Iowa on June 10, 1954. He received his commission with the air force through the R.O.T.C. program at the University and took his primary pilot training at Marana air force base, Ariz. Lt. Holleran was awarded his silver pilot wings Sept. 15, 1955 in graduation ceremonies at Goodfellow Air Force base, San Angelo, Texas. He had been serving as assistant finance officer of his pilot training group. On May 23, 1953 he married the former Becky Knudsen, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. H.K. Knudsen, formerly of Clinton and now of Boulder,Colo. She survives along with two children, Michael and Mark. Also surviving are his parents; two brothers, Brent and Robert; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. F.L. Holleran of Clinton.
