Bernice “Bunny” Geltz joined our Lord and her beloved Johnny in Heaven on February 12, 2014, after a brief illness. Visitation will be at Pape Funeral Home Sunday, February 16th, 2014 from 4-7 PM. Services will be 11:30 AM Monday, at the Pape Funeral Home with a visitation an hour before the service. Pallbearers will be James Tate, Warren Vaughan, Tom and Nick Leu, Kevin Chase and Darryl Waugh.

One of a set of identical twins, Bunny was born on June 17th, 1919 in Lyons, IA to William Charles and Iva Scofield Slowie. She was educated at St. Irenaeus Catholic School and Our Lady of Angels Academy, graduating in 1937. She worked at Climax Company during the war making engines for the war effort. When the war was over, “And Johnny Came Marching Home,” she married the love of her life, John Peter Geltz, at St. Irenaeus Catholic Church on July 2nd, 1946. John passed away January 23, 1991. Bunny also worked at Darlene’s Dress Shop, both in Lyons and Clinton locations and as a bookkeeper for various businesses, including the Frontier Motor Inn and Thomsen’s Tavern for many years.

She was a member of the former St. Irenaeus Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society, and a very active member of the Clinton Police Women’s Auxiliary for over thirty years. She was an excellent cook and baker and enjoyed entertaining. Her door was always open. She loved having coffee and conversations with her friends, neighbors and relatives while gathered around her kitchen table. She never told anyone who was visiting her home, “Goodbye,” but instead, told them “To come again soon.” She played various card games and Bingo and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.

She will be sadly missed by her son, J. W. “Bill” Geltz and his wife, Sheila. Her granddaughters; Amanda (Tom) Morrison of Kissimmee, FL and Ashley Geltz (Ryan Schuetzle) of Iowa City, IA, three great grandchildren; Alexzandria, Madeline and William “Gus” Morrison of Kissimmee, FL; left to mourn her are her sister, Helen J. Thomsen; nieces who were like daughters to her; Kathleen, Karen, Sharon and Linda, her angels and caregivers; Ruth, Kori, Jackie, Gina, Tom and Nick. She is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her husband John, her parents William and Iva Slowie, a brother William L. “Bud” Slowie, who was killed in the Battle of Luzon in 1944, her sister Edna Pesch, her infant twin sister, Bernadine, and a cousin who was raised with her, Anna Scofield Kridelbaugh.
