George A. Bearse, 72, of DeWitt, Iowa, died early Sunday morning, February 9, 2014 at Clarrisa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa.

He was born November 22, 1941, in Montebello, California, to Beverly and Florence (Adams) Bearse. George was raised in Bell Gardens, California. Upon graduation from High School he served in the Army during the Vietnam Era. While in the service he received technical training in arming and disarming nuclear weapons. George married the former Karen Huppert on July 16, 1967, in Massillon, Ohio. The couple resided in Ohio prior to moving to DeWitt in 1974. He was employed by Diebold, Inc. for 28 years, retiring in 1998. Karen preceded George in death on August 18, 2013.

George enjoyed cooking, furniture building and watching eagles. He was a good all around carpenter, naturist and animal lover.

Surviving are sons, Greagory (Jessica) Bearse of Davenport, Iowa, and George "Allen" Bearse of DeWitt; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; sisters, Roberta and Barbara.

In addition to his wife, Karen, George was preceded in death by his parents.

The family will receive friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 10:00 until 10:45 a.m. Thursday, February 13, 2014. A service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the Funeral Home. Burial and military rites will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.
