Valiera A. Oetzmann, 96, passed away Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, at Wheatland Manor in Wheatland.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Chambers Funeral Home in Eldridge. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Allen’s Grove Cemetery in rural Donahue, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice or to the Donahue Volunteer Fire Department.

Valiera was born Sept. 30, 1917, in rural Scott County, the daughter of Herman and Agnes (Flenker) Friederichs. She was united in marriage to Lloyd Oetzmann on Dec. 15, 1937, in Davenport. With 62 years of marriage, he preceded her in death in September 2000.

Valiera drove a school bus for the North Scott School District for more than 30 years. A devout wife, mother and homemaker, she enjoyed sewing and cooking and will be remembered for her many quilts over the years.

Those left to honor her memory include her daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Richard Shumaker of Tipton, Iowa; her sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Donna Oetzmann of Long Grove, Iowa; Larry and Jane Oetzmann of Donahue; Dennis and Pat Arp Oetzmann of Dixon, Iowa; Gene and Mary Oetzmann of Eldridge and Bill and Julie Oetzmann of DeWitt, Iowa; 21 grandchildren, and 29 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Lloyd, she was preceded in death by her parents; her twin sister, Vera; her daughter-in-law, Mary Oetzmann; her grandson, Jeff Oetzmann; her great-grandson, Justin Wold; her grandson-in-law, John Wold, and her daughter-in-law, Mary L. Oetzmann.
