Mike Hayen, 49, of DeWitt, Iowa, died Monday morning, December 30, 2013 in the comfort of his home and loving family.
A visitation will be held from 2:00 until 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. A service will follow at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Funeral Home. Pastor Dianne Prichard will officiate.

Michael Dean Hayen was born July 26, 1964, to Willis and Elaine (Hofkamp) Hayen in Mitchell, South Dakota. He was 1982 graduate of Stevens High School in Rapid City, South Dakota, and received a welding degree from Western Dakota Vo-tech in Rapid City. On August 10, 1992, he was united in marriage to Serena Marie Larson at the Little White Church in Hill City, South Dakota. Mike had a 22 year career with Lee Enterprises working in Rapid City and Billings, Montana. The couple moved to Iowa in 1998, where he worked for the Quad City Times. He worked for Guardian Glass for several years until illness forced retirement.

He was a proud volunteer firefighter of the DeWitt Fire Department. Mike was a loving husband and father who would do anything to help others. He was an avid outdoorsman and greatly enjoyed riding a Harley. Mike will be greatly missed by many.

Surviving are his loving wife of 21 years, Serena; children, Dustin Raba of McCausland, Iowa, Geri Raba and Douglas Hayen of DeWitt; a granddaughter, Elise May; his parents, Willis and Elaine Hayen of Rapid City; a brother, Brian (Lisha) Hayen of Hill City; nieces and a nephew, Nick, Trisha and Catherine.
