Mrs. Leora McMahon, 92, of DeWitt, Iowa, died early Monday morning, December 30, 2013, at Westwing Place, DeWitt.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 2, 2014 with a rosary at 3:00 p.m. and a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 3, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, the family suggests memorials to St. Joseph Church and School.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Mark, Andy, Mitchell, and Nathan McMahon, Darik Flathers, Keegan Siggins and Garrett Delaney.

Mrs. McMahon, the former Leora Garlough was born March 25, 1921, at rural Eldridge, Iowa to Oregan Jay and Sadie Mae (Stewart) Garlough. On January 30, 1940, Leora was united in marriage to Maurice McMahon at St. Joseph Rectory in DeWitt. The couple farmed at rural DeWitt, until retirement in 1977. Maurice preceded Leora in death on January 22, 1978.

She was a very active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt, the Altar and Rosary Society and Right To Life Christians of Clinton County. Leora loved her family dearly and enjoyed cooking, sewing, puzzles, camping at her family cabin.

Surviving are children, Francis (Arla Rae) McMahon of Charlotte, Iowa, Madonna Schlotfeldt, Delores Flathers, Ronald (Nancy) McMahon, Dale (Mary) McMahon, David (Lori) McMahon, Gary (Sylvia) McMahon and David (Tami) Delaney all of DeWitt; grandchildren, Mark (Michelle) McMahon, Denise (Pat) Schwartz, Janice (Bill) Cook, Leora (Jay) Claeys, Kimberly (Keith) Kuchel, Stephanie (Tim) Kueter, Jennifer (John) Anderson, Darik (Becky) Flathers, Paula (Garey) Chrones, Ronda (Brian) Simonson, Renee (Joe) Duwa, Roxann (Bryan) Kagemann, Andy (Renae) McMahon, Katie (Matt) Stober, Angie (Ryan) Stolte, Mitchell (Sam) McMahon, Lindsey McMahon, Keegan (Sara) Siggins, Brittney (Matt) Struve, Nathan McMahon, Alisha (Nic) Singelman, Kalyn McMahon, Garrett Delaney and Lexi Delaney; great-grandchildren, Kyle, Zach and Megan Schwartz, Elizabeth Smith, Catherine (Casey Stumpf) Cook, Noah and Liam Claeys, Jack, Jake and Sadie Kuchel, Trista (Brandon) Maher, Carissa, Josh (Kayla) and Brianna Kueter, Jessica, Valerie (Nick Dexter) and Allison Anderson, Amber, Garrison and Grayson Chrones, Emily Simonson, Jeanette and Remington Duwa, Dylan and Lucas Walker, Megan McMahon, Sydney and Ben Stober, Owen Stolte, Addison McMahon and Lena Singelman; great-great-grandchildren, Brooke, Haylee and Victoria Maher and Khi Kueter; nieces and nephews.

Preceding Leora in death in addition to her husband were a son, John "Jack" McMahon; a grandson, John Edward McMahon; sons-in-law, Fred Schlotfeldt and David Flathers; brothers, Marvin, Lavern "Pete", Lyle, Duwane and Robert and sisters, Arlene Staggs and Neva Hamann.
