Dorothy (Mrs. Roy) Palmer, 82, formerly of Monsey, New York, died Friday evening, December 27, 2013 at Grand Haven Assisted Living, Eldridge, Iowa.

The family will receive friends at First Presbyterian Church, 15 Shart Lane, Ramsey, New Jersey, from 10:00 until 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, January 22, 2014. A Service of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, in the Church with the Rev. Steve Houston officiating. Burial will be at Warwick Cemetery in Warwick, New York.

Mrs. Palmer, the former Dorothy Hane was born May 23, 1931 in Warwick, New York, to William S. and Mildred G. (Cox) Hane. Following graduation from high school in Suffern, New York, Dorothy attended and later graduated from Russell Sage College in Troy, New York with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology. Her entire career was spent as a Toxicologist for over 42 years at Hoffmann-La Roche Pharmaceutical Laboratory in Nutley, New Jersey. One of the highlights of Dorothy’s career was participating in the original toxicology studies for the drug Valium.

On September 6, 1986, Dorothy was united in marriage to Roy Palmer in Hilburn, New York. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Ramsey, New Jersey. Dorothy was a world traveler, having visited every continent. Her passion for life included, wildflowers, hiking, traveling and photography. She enjoyed sharing her photographs and travel stories formally and informally. Dorothy was proud of the fact that she had hiked the entire Appalachian Trail over the years.

Surviving are her husband, Roy; step-sons, Dr. Scott (Dana) Palmer of DeWitt, Iowa, and Russell (Shelly) Palmer of Rock Rapids, Iowa; a granddaughter, Morgan Palmer of DeWitt, and a host of friends. Preceding Dorothy in death were her parents.

The family received relatives and friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 1:00 until 1:45 p.m. Tuesday, December 31, 2013. A Funeral Service was held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Funeral Home. The Rev. Dr. Donald Batz will officiate.
