Vinetta A. (Mrs. George) Farber, 93, of DeWitt, Iowa, died early Tuesday morning, December 31, 2013, at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport, Iowa.

Vinetta Amelia Farber was born September 24, 1920, at rural Welton, Iowa, to Roy and Amelia (Schwartz) Ruggeberg. She graduated Salutatorian from Welton High School in 1937. She then graduated from Paris Academy of Beauty in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in 1939. Vinetta married George William Farber on September 10, 1940, at the Ruggeberg family home in rural Welton.

Vinetta owned and operated Vinetta's Beauty Salon on Main Street in DeWitt. The business was sold in September of 1940 when she and George were married. Vinetta and George farmed first in rural Long Grove, Iowa, then purchased a farm northwest of Grand Mound, Iowa, in 1953. While on the farm she raised chickens and sold eggs plus helped with the other farm chores. Vinetta prided herself in a large vegetable garden plus a beautiful flower garden each year. In 1993 they sold the farm house and buildings, retaining the land, and moved to DeWitt. George preceded her in death on November 1, 2004. In 2008, Vinetta moved to Grand Haven Retirement Community in Eldridge, Iowa.

Vinetta was a longtime member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Grand Mound, where she had taught Sunday School for several years. Vinetta loved her family and enjoyed seeing them each time they would visit. She never forgot to send a card for a birthday or anniversary. Vinetta loved to play cards and worked the crossword puzzle every day. She enjoyed her time at Grand Haven where she reconnected with old friends, got to know all of the workers, and made new friends.

Those left to honor Vinetta's memory include her sons, Dave (Jan) Farber of Galesburg, Illinois, Dwight (Brenda) Farber of Bloomington, Illinois, and Robert (Melinda) Farber of Des Moines, Iowa; six grandchildren, Debra (Steve) Moore, Brian (Charity) Farber, Jillian (Mitch) Comstock, Sarah (Chris) Hammerstrom, Josh Farber and Chris (Lexi) Farber; two step-grandchildren, Kevin (Michelle) Shekleton and Kristen (Dan) Zachwieja; eight great-grandchildren, Tom, Meagan and Jake Moore, Madison and Sydney Farber, Dylan Comstock, Maddox, Alexander and Elijah Hammerstrom; two step-great-grandchildren, Philip and Jack Shekleton; two brothers, Kenneth Ruggeberg of DeWitt and Everett Ruggeberg of Delmar, Iowa; a sister, Margaret Pestka of Clinton, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Lois Ruggeberg of DeWitt and Louise Collins of Moline, Illinois.

Preceding Vinetta in death in addition to her husband, George were her parents; stepmother, Jessie; four brothers, Harold, Leo, Darrel and Vernon; three sisters, Thelma Braet, Opal Ruggeberg and Bernetta Ruggberg; a step-sister, Dorothy Carson and two infant grandsons.

The family will greet relatives and friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 3, 2014. A Service of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 4, 2014 at St. Paul United Methodist Church, Grand Mound with Pastor Toni Brewster officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church.

Pallbearers will be Josh Farber, Chris Farber, Chris Hammerstrom, Mitch Comstock, Steve Moore and Brian Farber.

Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin Shekleton and Dan Zachwieja.
