Fern Mae Stowers, 87, of Camanche, passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2013 at the Alverno. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. at the Camanche Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home & Crematory with Dr. Batz officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Alan Durkee, Kendall Durkee, Gavin Durkee, Kage Murphy, Joseph Marheine and Kerry Morehead. Bobby Vance will be an honorary pallbearer.

Fern was born March 30, 1926 in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of Vilas and Velma (Leslie) Brown. She was a 1944, Clinton High School graduate. She married Esben R. Stowers on December 29, 1944 in Camanche, Iowa. He passed away on May 18, 1994.

Fern had been employed in the Purchasing Department at Chemplex for 16 years, retiring in 1986.

Fern was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her daughters, Julie (Sidney) Durkee of Camanche, IA, Mollie Lawrence of Waterloo, IA, and Kathie (Curtis) Murphy of Camanche, IA; 7 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 1 great great-grandson; sisters, Beverly Mensinger of Camanche, IA, and Sarey (Harold) Rycroft of Camanche, IA; and brothers, Bruce Brown of Sabula, IA, Marvin (Lei Lani) Brown of DeWitt, IA, and Leslie (Kathy) Brown of California.

Fern was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and her brother Leon.

Memorials may be made to the family for a charity of their choice.
