Norbert O. Trine, 99, of Clinton, Iowa, passed away Friday, October 18, 2013 at the Alverno. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM, Saturday, October 26, 2013 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Clinton. Visitation will be held from 4 – 7 PM, Friday, October 25, 2013 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home, where a 7 PM Parish vigil service will be conducted. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandchildren, Justin Trine, Joe Herkelman, Brent Thomas, Daniel Trine, Jeremy Rasmussen and Kristen Bergeron.

Norbert was born June 18, 1914 in Quincy, Illinois, the son of Oscar and Emma (Hutmacher) Trine. He was educated in the Quincy, Illinois schools and was a 1932 graduate of the Quincy College Academy. Norbert married Madeline M. Evans August 3, 1936 in Quincy, Illinois; Madeline preceded him in death September 2, 2008.

Norbert had been employed at S.S. Kresge and at E.I. DuPont for many years retiring in 1976.

Norbert was a member of St. Mary’s Parish, now Prince of Peace since 1942. He served as a Little League coach and also officiated in different baseball leagues, he played ball in the Industrial League for the DuPont team and pitched horse shoes in the Clinton city league. Norbert, who was an avid golfer, was a member of Valley Oaks and the Fulton Country Clubs and he loved to hunt and fish. In his younger years, he was a swimmer and life guard and was a swimmer in the Senior Olympics. Norbert loved attending all his children’s, grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s activities and was always willing to help others in need.

Norbert is survived by his daughters, Donna Herkelman of Clinton, Sharon Alm of Clinton; Janet (Paul) Olson of Portland, Oregon; Linda (Robert) Rasmussen of Glendale, Arizona; sons, Rick (Ann) Trine of State Center, Iowa; Randy (Patty) Trine of Burlington, Iowa, and Mark Trine of Woodward, Iowa. There are 20 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, six step great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and five step great-great grandchildren; brother, Eugene (Betty) Trine of Quincy, IL and sister, Marilyn Deege of Hortonville, WI.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Carl “Pork” Alm, his parents, two sisters and one brother.

Memorials may be made to the Prince of Peace Parish Hall fund, the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, American Kidney Foundation or American Cancer Association.
