LaVaun Jurgensen age 91 of Clinton passed away Thursday, October 24, 2013 at the Alverno Health Care Facility. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Monday Oct. 28th at St. John Lutheran Church in Clinton. Visitation will be held Sunday 4 – 7 PM at the Pape Funeral Home. Burial will be at Andover Cemetery in Andover. Casket bearers will be her grandchildren, Gregory, Grant and Robert Jurgensen, Christopher and Sarah Gleissner, and her helpful and loving neighbor, Bruce Stremlow. LaVaun was born to Virtus and Meta (Voss) Rittmer on April 24, 1922. She was raised by her grandparents, George and Lydie Rittmer following the death of her mother. She attended Miles High School. She had worked at Jane Lamb Hospital and Clinton Garment Factory before her marriage to Harold A. (Bud) Simmons in 1943. Bud was killed in action in Okinawa during WWII in May of 1945. She later married Wilbur Jurgensen on Aug. 10, 1946, he died Dec. 12, 1998.

She was past president of the Clinton P.T.A. and worked at Montgomery Wards Service Department for 9 years after her children were grown. LaVaun was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, enjoyed her flowers, her yard and playing cards. She had been a volunteer at Mercy Hospital North, Clinton Public Library and she loved to dance.

LaVaun is survived by her son, Michael (Sue) Jurgensen of Fenton, IL; a daughter, Mary (Don) Halverson of Avoca, WI; four grandsons, one granddaughter, and five great grandchildren; and a sister, Marian (Harold) Behrens of Clinton. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, and both husbands.
