Walter S. Avery age 86 of Clinton passed away Thursday, October 24, 2013 at Eagle Point Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at the Pape Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Irenaeus Calvary Cemetery with military rites by the AMVETS.

Walter was born in Elkhart, IN on March 17, 1927, the son of Louis and Opal (Stark) Avery. During W.W. II he served with the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific on board the Attack Cargo Ship, U.S.S. Trusdale. Walter married Jeanette Luher on May 20, 1950 in Dubuque. Jeanette passed away on November 26, 2000. Walter enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and watching Westerns. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and trapper.

Walter is survived by a daughter, Carlyn Arvey of Clinton; a son, Dan (Karen) Avery of Clinton; four grandchildren, Cody Hutton, Joshua Avery, Jacob Avery and Ryan Avery and two sisters, Patricia Bierdamann of Dubuque and Sister Anne of the Holy Ghost, Louisville, KY. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
