Erna E. Petersen age 101 of Dewitt, IA, formerly of Goose Lake, passed away Sunday Oct. 13, 2013 at West Wing Place in Dewitt. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Friday Oct. 18th at St. John Lutheran Church in Preston. Visitation will be held 4 – 7 PM Thursday at the church and Friday 9:30 AM until the service hour at the church. The Pape Funeral Home, Clinton is assisting the family. Burial will be at Clinton Lawn Cemetery in Clinton. Casket bearers will be her grandchildren, Lance, Brent, Brice, and Joel Petersen, Kevin Richmond, and Monty Pipkin. Erna was born on Sept. 4, 1912 in Ocholm, Germany, the daughter of Broder and Christine (Hinricksen) Nissen. She married August M. Petersen on Jan. 29, 1932 in Germany, he died in 1958. Erna was a homemaker and helped her husband on the farm. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Farm Bureau, and the Deep Creek Homemakers. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening, and maintaining her yard.

Erna is survived by her two sons, Raymond (Myrna) Petersen of Bryant, IA and August (Earlene) Petersen of Dewitt, IA; eight grandchildren, Jana, Joni, Sharilyn, Joel, Jane, Lance, Brent, and Brice; 18 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren; her daughter-in-law, Betty Petersen of Clinton, IA; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons, Martin and Ralph, a sister, and two brothers.
