Thomas H. Matje age 70 of Walcott, IA, formerly of Clinton, died on his birthday Thursday April 25, 2013 at Genesis East Medical Center. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Monday at the Pape Funeral Home, Clinton. Visitation will be held Sunday 2 – 4 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be at Clinton Lawn Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com.

Thomas was born on April 25, 1943 in Clinton, IA, on Easter Sunday, the son of Carl and Gertrude (Licht) Matje. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1961. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He married Jeanne Haylock on April 11, 1970. He graduated from Palmer Chiropractic College in 1975. He worked as a police officer in Clinton and later opened his own practice as a chiropractor in Walcott, IA. He was a member of the Grand Lodge of Iowa, A.F. & A.M. of Clinton. He enjoyed woodworking, painting, photography, and model trains.

Thomas is survived by his wife, Jeanne of Walcott; three children, Thomas L. (Nicole) Matje of WI, Jennifer (Tony) Offutt of Flagstaff, AZ, and Amy (Keith) Kester of Waconia, MN; 8 grandchildren, Brittany, Andrew, Matt, Megan, Kyle, Kaylin, Ella, and Evan; and a brother, Arnie (Evelyn) Matje of Clinton. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Billy Jean, and two brothers, Bill and Albert.
