Mrs. Evelyn Petersen, 90, of DeWitt, Iowa, died Friday morning, April 12, 2013, at Genesis Medical Center-DeWitt.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m. Sunday, April 14, 2013, with a Vigil Service at 6:00 p.m. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 15, 2013, at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt with the Reverend Father Paul Connolly presiding. Burial will be at Clinton Lawn Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Brian Petersen, Dennis Petersen, Curt Petersen, Nathan Petersen, Nicholas Petersen, Eric Petersen, Matthew Petersen, Dustin Petersen and Cody Petersen.

Evelyn Margaret Petersen was born Sept. 15, 1922, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Thomas and Grace (Stewart) Kerens. She married Marvin Petersen June 1, 1943, in Alexandria, Louisiana. The couple resided in DeWitt where they raised their family. Evelyn retired from Nielsen’s Clearing House. Her husband preceded her in death on July 2, 1997.

Evelyn enjoyed reading and crocheting and was greatly involved in the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an avid Cubs fan and attended the DeWitt Fitness Center regularly.

Surviving are children, Dave (Jean) Petersen of Kalispell, Montana, Duane (Pam) Petersen of Etters, Pennsylvania, Maureen (Bevan) Kreinbring of Clinton, Wisconsin, Mike (Lynne) Petersen of Minonk, Illinois, Daryl (Lisa) Petersen of Toledo, Iowa, Gregg (Deb) Petersen of DeWitt, Pete (Cindy) Petersen of Clinton, Iowa, and Bill (Ann) Petersen of DeWitt; 25 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Kerens of Clinton.

In addition to her husband, Evelyn was preceded in death by a son, Merle Petersen; twin infant sons, Donald and Dean; her parents; brothers, Tom, Jim and Bob Kerens and a sister, Loretta Detra.
