VERNON P. HARKSEN

Vernon P. Harksen, 86, of 3211 Cleveland St., died Tuesday at Samaritan North.
The funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Church of the Open Door with the Rev. Ron Abbott and Rev. John Lloyd officiating. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Pape Funeral Home. Burial will be in Clinton Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be a great-niece and grand-nephews: Malee and John Ketelsen, Michael and Kenneth Clark, Randy Harksen, Scott Reed, Mark Gehl and Roy Abbott.
Mr Harksen was born March 24, 1906 in Goose Lake, to Peter T. and Helena Kruse Harksen. He married Della Ketelsen Aug. 29, 1928 in Morrison. He was a general contractor from 1951 until retiring in 1976. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Seabees from 1943 to 1945 in the Marshall Islands and Guam. He received the Purple Heart. He also served in the Iowa National Guard. He was a member of American Legion Specer Cook No. 677 of Miles. He attended of Goose Lake schools and Wartburg College.
He was an avid Chicago Cub, Chicago Bull and Iowa Hawkeye fan. He enjoyed fishing and gardening.
Survivors include his wife; a brother, Delbert of Clinton; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister
