Harry Feddersen, 73, of DeWitt died Tuesday, July 3 at Westwing Place, DeWitt.
Services were held Friday at Blazek Funeral Home in DeWitt with the Rev. Jack Denning, St. Joseph Catholic Church, officiating. Military graveside services were conducted by the Eugene McManus American Legion Post 238 of DeWitt.
Pallbearers were John Daniel, Richard Schebler, Edward Noel, Rollie Schneckloth, and Howard and Denis Kearney.
Mr. Feddersen was born May 3, 1917 in Butler Township, Scott county to Jens and Emma Witt Feddersen. He married Elinor M. Daniel June 26, 1965 in Davenport.
He had been employed at the Wagner Ford Garage and the Peters Garage in DeWitt. He had owned and operated the Harry Feddersen Garage in DeWitt for 25 years until his retirement in 1982.
He was a member of the Eugene McManus American Legion of DeWitt, the Quad-City Plus 60 Club and the Lincolnway Spoke and Wheel Antique Car Club. He had won several awards with his two antique cars and was an avid outdoor sportsman.
He was an Army Veteran of World War II. He was awarded the Bronze Star for "displaying outstanding courage and devotion to duty in voluntarily going to the aid of two wounded men. With complete disregard for his personal safety, he exposed himself to intense enemy fire to successfully evacuate the casualties." He also served in the Normandy Invasion, the Ardennes Campaign and the Eastern European Theater during World War II.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a sister, Alice (Mrs. Howard) Kearney of Wheatland; and two brothers, Alvin of Wheatland and Robert of Maquoketa.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
