Clinton, Iowa - Eugene S. Andersen age 89 of Clinton, died Monday April 30, 2012 at the Alverno Health Care Facility. Funeral service will be held 10:30 am Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church. Visitation will be held Wednesday 4-7 pm at the Pape Funeral Home. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com.

Gene was born on Oct. 22, 1922 in Clinton, the son of Nels and Hannah (Jackson) Andersen. He graduated from Lyons High School in 1939 and attended Clinton Business College. He served in the US Army during WWII from 1943-1946. He married Irma Johansen on May 23, 1948 in Clinton, she died in 2008. Gene worked as a postal clerk at the Clinton Post Office for over 36 years, retiring in 1978. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Clinton Moose Lodge #363, and AMVETS. He was past President of the N.A.R.F.E. #879 and past Commander of Clinton American Legion #1957.

Gene is survived by his three sons, Edward (Jan) Andersen of Sterling, IL, Dennis (Judy) Andersen of Clinton, and James (Cathy) Andersen of De Forest, WI; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and a brother.
