Clinton - Elizabeth J. “Betty’ Griffin age 88 of Clinton passed away on Thursday, April 26, 2012 at the Alverno Health Care Facility. A Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, April 30th at Prince of Peace Parish. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 5:00 P.M. Sunday at the Pape Funeral Home. Wa-Tan-Ye will have a prayer service at 5:00 P.M. Sunday. Burial will be in St. Irenaeus Calvary Cemetery. Casket bearers will be her grandchildren
Betty was born in Burlington, Iowa on December 22, 1923, the daughter of Michael and Rose (Roesch) Daly. She graduated from St. Paul Catholic High School in Burlington. Betty married Floyd Griffin on September 13, 1947 in Burlington. Floyd passed away on April 28, 2010. Betty had been employed as an operator with Bell Telephone Company and later with Arsenal both in Burlington. She also assisted her husband with Griffin Tax Service. She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish, Wa-Tan-Ye, Red Hat Society, secretary for NARFE, chaplain for Amvets Auxiliary, a volunteer at Mercy Hospital, and a member of the former St. Irenaeus Church.
Betty is survived by nine children; Mary (Richard) Radewan of Racine, WI, Constance Johnson of Prior Lake, MN, Nancy (Greg) Kron of New Berlin, WI, Thomas Griffin of Elgin, IL, Elizabeth (Gene) Fagan of Newark, DE, Michael Griffin of Clinton, Rita (Donald) Schneider of Clinton, Timothy (Joanne) Griffin of Fleming Island, FL, and John (Michelle) Griffin of Clinton; 27 grandchildren; Jill (Andy Cusack), Karen (Mark Hellendrung), Kevin (Rachel), and James Radewan, Rebecca (Terry) Swenson and Christopher Johnson, Erin (Matt) Heiniger and David (Amanda Basich) Kron, Sean and Cory (Anna) Griffin, Sean and Kyle Fagan, Matthew (Shannon), Michael Paul (Liasha), Jonathon (Chelsea), and David Griffin, Sarah (Erik) Tucker, Katie (Victor) Stepper, Joseph, Samuel, and Anne Schneider, Parker Griffin, Olivia, Elizabeth, Audrey, Irene and Sophie Griffin; 13 great grandchildren, Alexander, Michael Paul Jr., Donovan, Logan, Kyle, Noah, Hannah, Abigail, Joshua, Ryan, Calvin, Daniel and Hailey; two sisters, Margaret Cahill and Martha (John) Elmore both of Burlington; two brothers, John (Marlene) Daly and Thomas Daly both of Burlington; a sister-in-law, Maxine Schmeig of Burlington; a brother-in-law, Orville Docterman of Burlington and a dear cousin, Sister Gracita Daly, BVM of Dubuque. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a great grand-daughter, Gracie; a son-in-law, Craig Johnson; a brother, William Daly; a sister, Catherine Docterman; four sisters-in-law, Joyce Daly and Eva Daly; Elizabeth Bitner, Mary Alice Zeller and four brothers-in-law, Richard Schmeig, Robert Barton, Otis Bitner and William Cahill.
