Goose Lake - Darla J. Burken
On Friday, April 20, 2012, Darla J. Burken joined her loving husband, Butch Burken, who had passed on in September of 2008. Darla passed peacefully surrounded by her loving family at Alverno Skilled Care Facility in Clinton, Iowa.
A Mass in celebration of Darla’s life will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, April 23, 2012, at Assumption Catholic Church in Charlotte, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 PM on Sunday, April 22, 2012, at Pape Funeral Home in Clinton, Iowa, and from 9:30 AM until the service at 10:30 at the church in Charlotte. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery. Casket bearers will be her grandsons.
Darla Jane Kieffer Burken was born on July 27, 1937, to Ardis (Roeder) and Raymond Kieffer in Preston, Iowa. Darla attended Preston Schools and graduated in 1955 from Preston High School. Darla married Leroy (Butch) Burken on October 15, 1955, in Preston, Iowa.
Darla and Butch farmed in the Preston/Goose Lake area for 25 years. After moving to Goose Lake, she then worked at the Alverno for 10 years, Community Care of Charlotte, Target and was currently enjoying her time as a “Pink Lady” volunteer at Mercy Hospital.
Darla loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends. She enjoyed going to her grandchildren’s activities and sporting events. She was an avid supporter of the Northeast Rebels and loved going to the games with her friends. She also loved to watch the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Chicago Cubs. Darla had a wonderful network of friends that included her Garden Club, Birthday Club, Card Club, and any social activities with her close friends.
Survivors include three sons Brad (Anna) Burken and Tim (Barb) Burken of Charlotte, Iowa and Joel (Hope) Burken of Rolla, Missouri; her daughter Annette (Todd) Munck of Fulton, Illinois; 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; sister Gloria Hammond; a brother Glen (Joan) Kieffer; brother-in-laws Jim (Mary) Burken and Tom Burken; and sister-in-law Connie Gerber.
Darla was preceded in death by her loving husband Leroy (Butch) Burken, her son Paul Burken, and her parents Ray and Ardis Kieffer.
Memorials may be made to Camp Courageous and family wishes.
