A complete obituary will appear in Wednesday’s paper. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Helen was born in Clinton, Iowa on October 2, 1923 to Albert and Dorothy (Andersen) Westergaard. She went to Clinton schools through the 8th grade. Helen married Ralph Proud in 1939. He passed away in 1963. She later married Donald Jones who passed away in 1989. She married Gerald Galusha in 1991. Helen worked 14 years at the Clinton Garment Company and later owned and operated Main Avenue Tap for 9 ½ years. She retired from Target after 19 years of service.
Helen lived in Clinton most of her life until she married Jerry and moved to Bellevue, Iowa. While married to Jerry she enjoyed traveling and became a Snowbird in Texas for several years. She was well known for making pies from scratch, and afghans for charitable events such as the Heart Fund. She loved nature and all involved in it, such as feeding her squirrels and humming birds daily. There were several squirrels that she fed by hand and were her babies. We think even the hummingbirds knew they had a home to come back to. Helen loved her gardening and flowers to work with. When the Cubs made her mad you would find her in the garden or cleaning a flower bed.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Lynne Sturtevant of Camanche; a son, Dale Jones of Clinton; 11 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 4 step-children, Lois (Pat) Black of Clinton, Emily (John) French of Clinton, Paula McArdle of Maquoketa and Tim Galusha of Otis, Kansas; 20 step-grandchildren; several step-great grandchildren and a sister Adele (Ruben) Salazar of Valley Springs, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sons, Larry, Keith, and Wayne Proud; a daughter, Sharon Proud in infancy and two step children, Ruth Mills and Donny Jones.
