Roberta Roberts, 67, passed into eternal life on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at her home, Arch I. Roberta, who was affectionately known as "Bertie", was born on Aug. 29, 1944 and adopted by Alvin and Vera Roberts in Clinton, Iowa. Bertie lived at Community Care in Charlotte for several years before moving to The Arch, L'Arche in Clinton, on May 24, 1994. From that day on, Bertie captivated the hearts of all who came to live, share life or visit The Arch.

Bertie worked at Skyline Center for many years, and she was active in Special Olympics. She enjoyed helping out around the house, especially in the kitchen. She loved to sing, pray, watch "the wheel" and always had a gift for everyone who was celebrating a birthday. Her favorite term of endearment was "my puppy." The special friendships she had with her housemates, Mary Pat and Eric and many others were examples to all of God's love.

In the past 18 months, many came to know and love Bertie not by what she did or said, but by a touch, a look or perhaps a few words. Bertie was grateful for all the tender loving care she received from so many in the L'Arche community.

Bertie is survived by her brother Denny, two sisters, Evelyn and Lois, the members of L'Arche and close friend, Dick. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be at Prince of Peace Parish from 4:00-7:00pm on Wednesday, April 4, 2012and a celebration of her life will be held at Prince of Peace 10:30am on Thursday, April 5th. The Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory is handling the arrangements. Memorials can be made to The Arch, Skyline Center or VNA Hospice.
