Camarillo, CA, formerly of Clinton, IA - Omer S. Freund age 85 of Camarillo, California formerly of Clinton died April 7, 2012 at St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital in Camarillo. The funeral mass will be held 10:30 am Saturday, April 14th at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fulton, IL. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Friday, April 13th at the Pape Funeral Home. Burial will be at St. Irenaeus Calvary Cemetery in Clinton, IA. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com

Omer was born in Richmond, Iowa on October 6, 1926, the son of Joseph and Winifride (Kneable) Freund. He married Rosemary Cavanaugh on November 20, 1947. Rosemary died in December 0f 1949. He later married Dorothy Hurlburt in October of 1950. He was employed at E.I. DuPont for 37 years, retiring in 1984. Omer was a devoted, loving husband, father, and grandpa. He lived his life according to his strong faith in the Lord. He was a quiet man, loved nothing better than a peaceful day of fishing. He was blessed with an amazing talent of working his hands in wood, whether doing carpentry or creating a piece of art. Omer loved animals and working in the garden, especially growing giant tomatoes. He will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know him.

Omer is survived by his wife Dorothy; two daughters; Karla (Tom) Skibbe of Wisconsin and Bernadette (Robert) Clausen of rural Princeton, Iowa; a son, Stephen (Susana) Freund of Oxnard; three brothers; Gerald, Charles (Margaret), and Thomas (Shirley); five grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; six great grandchildren; six step-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rosemary and brothers, Hubert, Harold, Victor, Clair, Louis, John, Leonard, Lawrence, and an unnamed newborn brother. A sister, Lucille, died in infancy.
