Gladys A. (Mrs. Art) Jessen, 91, of DeWitt, Iowa, died Saturday morning, March 3, 2012 in her home.

Mrs. Jessen, the former Gladys Ann Garrick was born March 21, 1920 on the family farm at rural Welton, Iowa. She was one of three children born to Anthony and Emma (Hilbert) Garrick. Gladys was a graduate of DeWitt High School. On June 25, 1943, she was united in marriage to Arthur H. Jessen in Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt. Mrs. Jessen worked for the Clinton County Extension Office for several years and retired from Iowa Mutual Insurance Company of DeWitt following over 20 years of service. Art preceded Gladys in death on May 1, 2008.

She was a longtime member of DeWitt Lutheran Fellowship. Gladys enjoyed baking and dearly loved her family and grandchildren.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Carla Jessen of DeWitt; grandchildren and their spouses, Garrick and Cindy Jessen of DeWitt, and Tarah and Kevin Lee of Eldridge, Iowa; great-grandchildren, Andy Jessen, Samantha Jessen, Brendon Lee, Logan Lee, Austin Lee and Kaiden Lee.

In addition to her husband, Art, Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Henry and a sister, Esther Stary.

The family will receive friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Monday, March 5, 2012. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at DeWitt Lutheran Fellowship. Pastor Paul Lang will officiate. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.

Pallbearers will be Garrick Jessen, Kevin Lee, Andy Jessen, Tony Jessen, Denny Bauer and Frank Worrick. Honorary pallbearers will be Bud Wieck, Merlyn “Buck” Schau, Richard Walker and Wayne Boysen.
