Raymond D. Adams, 89, of DeWitt, died Thursday afternoon, February 9, 2012, at Westwing Place, DeWitt.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 24, 2012, with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt, from 9:00 until 9:45 a.m. Saturday, February 25, 2012. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday in the Church. The Rev. Fr. Paul Connolly will officiate with burial in the Church Cemetery.

Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

Raymond Daryl Adams was born October 27, 1922, in Low Moor, to Mathias and Effie (Seamer) Adams. He was a graduate of St. Joseph High School and Scoville Business School in Clinton. On June 6, 1945, Raymond was united in marriage to Lavonne Reynolds in St. Anne's Catholic Church, Welton, Iowa. The couple farmed in rural Scott and Clinton Counties. They retired in 1984. Lavonne preceded Ray in death March 5, 2008.

He enjoyed woodworking, traveling, genealogy and family gatherings.

Surviving are eight children, Bonnie (Richard) Campbell of Grand Mound, Steve (Roberta) Adams of California, Jim (Jean) Adams of DeWitt, Betty (Doug) Jess of Camanche, Barb (Gary) Sander and Joe (Rachel) Adams of DeWitt, Bobbi (Mike) Martin of Dubuque, and Tom Adams of Davenport; 26 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren; a brother, Ronald Adams of Lincoln, Nebraska.

In addition to his wife, Ray was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, brothers, Ralph and Robert and a sister, Ruth.
