The Clinton Herald Thursday April 3, 1997 p 11 The funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday at Camanche Chapel, Snell-Zornig Funeral Home for Charles J. Salyars, 65, of 110 21st St. He died Tuesday at his home. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Lyle, Justin, Jay and Matthew Salyars, Marty Salyars Sr. and Marty Salyars Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be James Payton and Randy Boileau. He was born March 2, 1932, in Freemont, to Lyle and Lois Tripplet Salyars. He married Geraldine Carroll, May 31, 1954, in Rock Island, Ill. He later married Beverly Bender, March 20, 1981, in Tipton. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954. He had been employed as a chef/baker at various hotel firms in Iowa. He was a lifetime member of the VFW. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Marty Salyars Sr. of Falmouthg, Va., and Matthew Salyars of Prairieburg; a stepson, Duane Linder of Muscatine; five daughters, Teresa Salyars Schneider of Clinton, and Jenene Salyars McLaughlin and Sheila Salyars Jackson, both of Cedar Rapids, Majoli Salyars of Camanche, and Jacquelin Salyars of Tipton; 17 grandchildren; a great-grandson; five brothers, Lowell Salyars of Rodchester, Donald Salyars of DeWitt, Billy Salyars of Wilton, Robert Salyars of Camanche, and Gary Salyars of Stanwood; and two sisters, Betty Johnson of Rodchester, and Rosie Bowdish of Davenport. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter and a sister. Death date, April 1, 1997.
