The Clinton Herald Monday May 26, 1941 p. 5 David Lindsey Black, 73, of 338 Tenth avenue, South, died Sunday afternoon in Jane Lamb hospital, following several months' illness. Funeral rites will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Snell funeral home. The Rev. C.E. Thompson will officiate. Members of Lt. George Michelsen camp, No. 8, Spanish American War Veterans, will form an escort from the funeral home to Clinton Memorial park where they will hold their service at the grave. The body reposes in the funeral home. Mr. Black was born Sept. 26, 1867, in Indiana. He was widely known for his unique experiences during the early 1900's as a government steward, property clerk and disbursing office in a Philippine leper colony. His service in the Cuban hospital corps during the Spanish-American war, followed by years of duty in the health corps of the regular army in the Phillippines, qualified him for his rigorous labors amond the lepers. Surviving are one son, Raymond Black of Davenport, a daughter, Mrs. Marie Watt of Moline, Ill., four grandchildren and one great grandchild; four brothers and two sisters.
