Mrs. Hazel R. Akers, 73, Rock Island, Illinois, died early Friday morning, July 29, 2011 at Trinity Rock Island.

Mrs. Akers was born Hazel Ruth Sheldon August 29, 1937 in Davenport, Iowa, to Duane and Arena (Coen) Sheldon. She married Richard Jones in March of 1956. Hazel later married Harold Akers in 1972. She was a homemaker all of her life. Harold preceded Hazel in death October 16, 2010.

She enjoyed board games, puzzles, BINGO and oil painting. Hazel was a true animal lover and always enjoyed the pets she had.

Surviving are children, Ruthie (Bruce) Ewoldt of Toronto, Iowa, John Jones of Anna, Illinois, and Charles Jones of Davenport; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husbands, Hazel was preceded in death by her parents.

A Service of Christian Burial will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, July 31, 2011 in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Davenport. The Rev. Chris Lockie will officiate. Interment will be in Carman Cemetery in Carman, Illinois.
