R. B. McCoy, well known attorney and clubman, passed away Sunday noon at 12:50 o’clock at the family residence, Breezy Point, after an illness of a number of months with heart trouble. Although not acutely ill all this time, he had been down town only at intervals and had been confined to his room for about a week prior to his demise. Funeral services were held this afternoon at 3:30 o’clock at the late home, conducted by James Marquis Duer, D. D., of the First Presbyterian church. Burial was in Springdale cemetery, the pallbearers being C. E. Smith, E. J. Curtis, G. W. Wilson, Jr., James McGregor Leslie, E. A. Young, W. W. Cook, F. J. Iten and F. H. Van Allen.
Russell Belknap McCoy was born in Fulton, Ill., November 21, 1871, the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. R. McCoy. His father was an able attorney and enlarged the practice entered upon in Whiteside county to include a large practice in Clinton and a residence in this city. Russell McCoy was their only son. After attending the Clinton High school he attended Oberlin College and studied law in his father’s offices, being admitted to practice at the Clinton County bar. He retired from active practice ten years ago. He was a man of ability, a good conversationalist, a logical thinker, a deep student, an inveterate reader. He was best known as a clubman, being identified in Masonic circles, and a member of the Rotary club, the B. P. O. E., the Country club and the Wapsipinicon club. The Elks club rooms were closed this afternoon in deference to his memory. The Rotary club attended the services in a body.
April 26, 1899, Mr. McCoy and Miss Clara Lamb, daughter of the late Artemus Lamb, were married. Their younger son, Lafayette, companionably known as “Pudge,” passed away earlier in the year, and Mrs. McCoy and their elder son, Albert R. McCoy, only are left in the immediate family. His parents passed away some years since.
