Alice Rose Engler
(October 23, 1919 - July 19, 2006)

Mrs. Alice R. Engler, 86, DeWitt, Iowa, died Wednesday afternoon, July 19, 2006 at Mercy Medical Center-North Campus, Clinton, Iowa.

Mrs. Engler, the former Alice Rose Schroeder, was born October 23, 1919 in Grand Mound, Iowa, to Henry and Rose (Nielsen) Schroeder. On January 21, 1941, Alice was united in marriage to Emery C. Engler at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Mound. The couple farmed near Donahue until their retirement in 1984 when they moved to DeWitt.

Alice was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt. She loved her family dearly and the time she could spend with them. While visiting Montana, Alice enjoyed the views of the mountains. She also enjoyed collecting bird figurines, working jigsaw puzzles and was an avid Cubs fan.

Surviving are her daughter, Ila Jean Petersen and husband, David and a grandson, Dennis Petersen and wife Sonia, Kalispell, Montana; a sister, Louise Truelsen, DeWitt; sisters-in-law, Lucille Schroeder, DeWitt, Annabelle Finck, Durant, Iowa, Dorothy Wuster, Washington, Indiana, Viola Engler, Donahue, Iowa, Norma Engler, Eldridge, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Melvin Quick, Davenport, Iowa, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Emery, Alice was preceded in death by two sisters, Julia Bartels and Helen Slapnicka DeSirey and two brothers, Raymond and Virtus Schroeder.

Family and friends may visit at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 3 until 6 p.m. Sunday, July 23, 2006. Service of Christian Burial 11 a.m. Monday, July 24, 2006 at Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt. The Rev. Garland Gotoski and Landon Becker, DCE officiating. Interment Evergreen Cemetery, Grand Mound. The family suggests memorials to Grace Lutheran Church Roofing Fund or Grace Lutheran Ministries.

Pallbearers will Larry Engler, Gaylon Truelsen, Steve Engler, Todd Engler, DeVere Ganzer and Eddie Wagemester. Honorary pallbearers will be Dwane Bentrott, Cathy Ingwerson and Karen Theisen.
