Ethel Catherine Dunlavey
(February 11, 1906 - October 3, 2005)

Ethel Dunlavey, 99, DeWitt, Iowa died Monday, October 3, 2005 at Amber Ridge Assisted Living, DeWitt.

The daughter of Gust M. and Winnie (Farrell) Thiessen, Ethel was born February 11, 1906 in Center Township, Clinton County, Iowa. On November 21, 1923 she was united in marriage to Michael Dunlavey. Michael preceded Ethel in death in August of 1959.

Ethel was a life long Clinton County resident. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society. She was a longtime member of the Loyal Order of Moose and at one time was Senior Regent. She loved playing cards, traveling and putting puzzles together.

Survivors include her daughter, Rosemary Ledin, Ankeny, Iowa; her son and daughter-in-law, Leonard and Lois Dunlavey, DeWitt, Iowa; seven grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Stella Hansen, Iowa City, Iowa.

In addition to her husband, Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Stanley Thiessen, two sisters, Lavina Hoenicke and Veronica Ryan and a grandson, Thomas Dunlavey.

Family and friends may call at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 5 until 8 p.m. Thursday, October 6, 2005. Rosary 5 p.m. and Vigil Service 8 p.m. Funeral Liturgy 1:30 p.m. Friday, Friday, October 7, 2005 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt. The Rev. Fr. H. Robert Harness officiating. Interment St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, DeWitt.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.

Memorials may be given to St. Joseph Catholic Church or Amber Ridge Assisted Living.
