Mary Ellen Dalton
(March 8, 1921 - March 25, 2003)

Mrs. Mary Ellen Dalton, 82, Grand Mound, Iowa, died Tuesday morning, March 26, 2003 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa.

Mary Ellen Forret was born March 8, 1921 at Rural Calamus, Iowa, to Edmond and Ella (Hahn) Forret. She married Harold Dalton, October 3, 1939 at Ss Philip and James Catholic Church in Grand Mound. He died January 14, 1975.

She had worked at Marik Egg Company, DeWitt, Iowa, and later Iowa Mutual Insurance Company, DeWitt, retiring from Iowa Mutual in 1983. She was a member of Ss Philip and James Catholic Church, Grand Mound, and its altar and rosary society as well as several card clubs. Mary Ellen enjoyed her family, playing cards, and bingo.

Survivors include sons, Edward (Bernice) Dalton, DeWitt; Frederick "Fritz" Dalton, Camanche, Iowa; John "Doug" (Rita) Dalton, DeWitt, and Robert (Ann) Dalton, Davenport, Iowa; 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and two step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Frank (Betty) Forret, Calamus, Iowa and a sister-in-law, Velma Forret, Wheatland, Iowa.

Along with her husband, Mary Ellen was preceded in death by an infant sister, a brother, Jim Forret, two grandchildren, and a daughter-in-law Mindy Dalton.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 2 until 8 PM Thursday, March 26, 2003 at Schultz Funeral Home, Grand Mound. A Parish Vigil Service will be held at 8 PM Thursday at the Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 AM Friday, March 27, 2003 at Ss Philip and James Catholic Church, Grand Mound. The Rev. Fr. H. Robert Harness officiating. Interment at Calvary Cemetery, Grand Mound.

A memorial fund has been established.

Pallbearers will be Rick Dalton, Brian Dalton, Dan Dalton, Trent Dalton, Rob Dalton, Mike Kelly, Jason Kessler, and Thayne Good.
