John T. Chandler
(April 7, 1912 - March 20, 2003)

Mr. John T. Chandler, 90, DeWitt, Iowa, died Thursday evening, March 20, 2003 at DeWitt Community Hospital.

Mr. Chandler was born April 7, 1912 in DeWitt, Iowa, the son of Alfred and Edith (Spence) Chandler, and was a graduate of DeWitt High School. John was self-employed all of his life, owning and operating Chandler Repair Shop, until retirement in 1984.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, DeWitt, as well as a member and Past Master of the former DeWitt Masonic Lodge #34. His other Masonic activities included District Lecturer of the Iowa Grand Masonic Lodge and a 32nd degree member of the Clinton, Iowa Scottish Rite. Following his retirement, John enjoyed building clocks, as well as collecting phono and tape recordings.

Surviving are his sisters, Grace Farber, Moline, IL; Edith Gleason, DeWitt; Rose Galitz and her husband, John, DeWitt; Alice Stotesbery and her husband, Stewart, Richfield, Minnesota; numerous nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Mary Anderson and Elizabeth Bowstead, and four brothers-in-law, Lester Anderson, Leonard Bowstead, Donald Farber and Robert Gleason.

Family and friends may visit at Schultz Funeral Home, 722 8th Street, DeWitt, from 2 until 5 PM Sunday, March 23, 2003. A Masonic Service will be held at 5 PM Sunday at the Funeral Home. Service of Christian Burial 10:30 AM Monday, March, 24, 2003 at the United Methodist Church of DeWitt. The Rev. John Caldwell officiating. Interment at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.

Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church, DeWitt, DeWitt Community Hospital, or a favorite charity.

Pallbearers will be Don Vicroy, Bill Anderson, Gary Alden, Gary Gleason, Kent Marcek, and Hal Shelton. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Gleason, John Bowstead, and Jim Stotesbery.
