David Glenn Block
(March 6, 1939 - July 22, 2011)

David G. Block, 72, Wheatland, died Friday afternoon, July 22, 2011 at The Alverno in Clinton, Iowa.

David Glenn Block was born on the family farm at rural Grand Mound, Iowa, March 6, 1939 to Arnold and Neoma (Casad) Block. He graduated from Calamus High School in 1957. Following graduation, David served in the Air Force for four years. On February 25, 1962, he was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Carol Ann Olson at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, rural Calamus. David farmed the family farm at rural Grand Mound for the majority of his life.

He was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Mound where he served various offices. David and also served on the Calamus School Board, Farm Bureau Board and was a Grant Township Trustee. David loved the winters he and Carol Ann spent in Florida for many years. He especially loved golfing, playing cards, fishing and family time. David was an avid Cubs and Hawkeye fan.

Surviving are his loving wife of 49 years, Carol Ann; children, and their spouses, Betty and Scott Harksen of Camanche, Gregg and Denise Block of DeWitt, and Robert and Melony Block of Frisco, Texas; grandchildren, Courtney and Derek Harksen, Justin and Lucas Block and Chelsea and Lynsea Rohde; siblings, Donald (Mary Lou) Block of Grand Mound, Doris Younkin and Alice Durkee both of California, Alvin (Lois) Block of DeWitt; many nieces and nephews.

Preceding David in death were his parents.

Family and friends may visit from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. Sunday, July 24, 2011 at Schultz Funeral Home, Grand Mound. A Service of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Mound, with the Rev. Timothy Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.
