Ray Bickel
(February 11, 1908 - January 6, 2004)

Ray Bickel, Sr., 95, DeWitt, Iowa, died Tuesday morning, January 6, 2004 at Westwing Place, DeWitt.

Augustine Raymond Bickel was born February 11, 1908 in Long Grove, Iowa in Scott County the son of Gus and Theresa (Doyle) Bickel. He married Marletta Hellberg in February 3, 1934 at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Long Grove. He then married Frances Betts January 26, 1943. Ray farmed at Lost Nation and worked for Hansen Implement in Calamus. Following his retirement he operated Ray's Farm Repair.

He was a member of Ss Philip and James Catholic Church, Grand Mound. He greatly enjoyed cards and loved to take drives.

Surviving are his children, Marlyss Bickel, DeWitt; Marletta Mae (James) Franzen, Clinton, Iowa; Ruth Ann, Leesburg, Florida; Ray, Jr. (Margarette) Bickel, Grand Mound, Iowa; Patricia (Robert) Pascuito, Jacksonville, Florida; Paul (Dot) Bickel, Rising Sun, Maryland; Frank Bickel, Calamus; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a special friend, Loretta Howard, Preston.

Ray was preceded in death by his wives, Marletta, Ruth and Eva, his parents, a grandson, and a brother, LeRoy.

Family and friends may visit at Schultz Funeral Home, Grand Mound, from 3 until 7 PM Thursday, January 8, 2004. Parish Vigil Service 7 PM. Funeral Liturgy 10:30 AM Friday, January 9, 2004 at Ss Philip and James Catholic Church, Grand Mound. The Rev. Fr. H. Robert Harness officiating. Interment at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, DeWitt.

Pallbearers will be Ray Bickel, Jr., Frank Bickel, Paul Bickel, Scott Bickel, Jim Franzen and Ron DeMoss.
