Arnold Herman Edwin Block
(August 16, 1910 - June 24, 2004)

Mr. Arnold H. Block, 93, DeWitt, passed away Thursday afternoon, June 24, 2004 at Westwing Place, DeWitt, where he was a resident.

He was born at home in Rural Grand Mound on August 16, 1910. Arnold was the son of Herman and Amelia (Rock) Block. On February 5, 1936 he married Neoma Casad at St. John's Lutheran Church, Bliedorn. The couple farmed until 1969 and moved to DeWitt in 1970. Neoma preceded Arnold in death on June 2, 1999.

Arnold was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Mound, was a Township Trustee, an American Mutual Director, Farm Bureau Member and 4-H Leader. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed camping and fishing.

Surviving are three sons, Donald (Mary Lou) Block, Grand Mound; David (Carol Ann) Block, Grand Mound; Alvin (Lois) Block, DeWitt; two daughters, Doris Younkin, Rancho Mirage, California, and Alice Durkee, Woodland Hills, California; 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson.

Along with his wife, Arnold was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Adolph and a sister, Aulda Paarmann.

Family and friends may visit at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 4 until 7 p.m. Sunday, June 27, 2004. Funeral 10 a.m. Monday, June 28, 2004 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Mound. The Rev. Dennis Arndt officiating. Interment at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.

Pallbearers will be Tim Block, Jerad Block, Joel Block, Jayce Block, Gregg Block, Bob Block, Bill Durkee, Kurtis Younkin and Kenton Younkin. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeanne Jacobs, Jayne Jacko, Betty Harksen, Kelly Ellzey and Jolene de Bruijn.
