Clinton - Melvin A. “Mel” Reimer age 84 of Clinton died Friday, July 1, 2011 at the Alverno Health Care Facility. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, July 5th at the Pape Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. until the service time Tuesday at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.

Mel was born in Clinton on July 29, 1926, the son of Alfred and Elsie (Groth) Reimer. He graduated from Lyons High School in 1944. Mel served with the U.S. Army during W.W. II in the South Pacific. He was wounded by a Japanese tree sniper on the island of Mindanao in the Southern Philippines for which he received the Purple Heart. Following his time in the service he attended and graduated from Palmer Chiropractic College in Davenport. Mel married Violet Huebner on March 1, 1953 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Clinton.

Mel was an engineering specialist at G.E. in Morrison for over 36 years retiring in 1986. He enjoyed working in his yard, gardening, woodworking and listening to music. He enjoyed watching Iowa Hawkeye football games.

Melvin is survived by his wife, Violet; a son, Marlin (Carol) Reimer of Brownsburg, IN; a daughter, Vicky (Dennis) Kroymann of Miles; five grandchildren, Mark (Shari) Reimer of Flower Mound, TX, Sara Reimer of Des Moines, Rebecca Kroymann of Clinton, Stephanie (Jason) Jacobsen of Riverside, IA and Jessica Kroymann of Indianapolis; two great grandsons, Brilan and Bakstin Reimer and a special cousin, Mildred Reusche of Clinton. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials may by made to the Alverno or Genesis Hospice. Online condolences may be left atwww.papefh.com
