Gertrude H. (Mrs. Wesley) Wieck, 89, Calamus, Iowa, died Wednesday evening, July 13, 2011 in Wheatland Manor at Wheatland, Iowa.

Mrs. Wieck was born Gertrude Helen Christella Malmanger January 19, 1922 on the family farm at rural Grand Mound. Following graduation from Grand Mound High School in 1939, Gertie attended Mount Saint Clare College in Clinton, Iowa, earning her teaching certificate. She taught in Rural Schools in the Calamus area. Following her teaching career, Gertie worked at Iowa Mutual Insurance Company in DeWitt, Iowa, and the Union Savings Bank, Grand Mound, until reitrement in 1972. On June 23, 1972, Gertie was united in marriage to Wesley Wieck at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, rural Calamus.

Gertie was currently a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Mound. She was active in the Lutheran Women's Missionary League of which she served as historian. Gertie was a longtime member of the Friday Study Club. She loved gardening, sewing, family genealogy, flowers and time spent with her family.

Surviving are husband, Wesley; step-sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Shelley Wieck of Calamus and Jeff and Karna Wieck of Coralville, Iowa; grandchildren, Leah Wieck, Justin (Laura) Wieck and Abigail (fiance, Brent) Wieck; a great-grandson, Jalen Wieck; a sister and brother-in-law, Arlene and Harold Green, Grand Mound; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Malmanger, DeWitt, Malinda Malmanger, Calamus, and Marilyn White, Grand Mound; many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Gertie in death were her parents, brothers, Ed and Kenneth "Knute" Malmanger and a brother-in-law, Charles White.

Family and friends may visit at Schultz Funeral Home, Grand Mound, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friday, July 15, 2011. A Service of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 16, 2011 in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Mound. The Rev. Arthur Rickman will officiate with burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Grand Mound. Memorials are suggested to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Mound or Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Calamus.
