Miriam Ruth McDermott Scibetta, 82, Des Plaines, Illinois, died Wednesday evening, June 15, 2011 at Oakton Pavillion, Des Plaines.

Mrs. Scibetta was born March 26, 1929 in Charlotte, Iowa, to John and Mae (Troy) McDermott. Her mother died at a young age and she was raised by the Troy family. Miriam attended Our Lady of Angels High School and Clarke College in Dubuque. Miriam married Norman Scibetta on June 17, 1950 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt.

She lived in Elgin, Illinois, following her marriage and worked for the Elgin School System. When her children were young she sang in the church choir.

Survivors include five daughters and a sister, Joan (McDermott) Reed.

Miriam was preceded in death by her parents, Mae (Troy) McDermott and John McDermott and two sisters.

A Memorial Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 25, 2011 in St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt. The Rev. Fr. Paul Connolly will officiate. Private interment was in the Church Cemetery.
