CLINTON, Iowa -- Evelyn Lynch Kearney, Clinton, died Monday evening, August 18, 2003, at her home.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Irenaeus Catholic Church, Clinton, with the Rev. Jeffry Belger officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig-Dennis A. Lemke Funeral Home where a vigil service will be at 6 p.m. Burial will be in St. Irenaeus Cemetery where her husband, parents and two of her sons are buried. Pallbearers will be her nephews Steven A. Lynch, Dr. Brent J. Holleran, Robert P. Holleran, William C. Troy, Thomas F. Kearney and her great-nephew, Robert S. Holleran.

She was born in Clinton, June 14, 1913, to Albert J. and Theresa Weinbeck Lynch. In 1931, she graduated from St. Mary's High School, Clinton, where she played basketball. On January 17, 1939, she married Vincent J. Kearney at St. Mary's Catholic church in Clinton. He died on May 4, 2003.

She was the manager of the S & H redemption center during the entire span of its operation in Clinton. She loved to play bridge and was a member of a foursome that met every Thursday afternoon for several decades. She was a volunteer in the gift shop of Mercy Hospital from 1958 until 2001.

She is descended from pioneer families in the area. Her great grandparents, Michael Lynch and Bridget Flemming settled in Elk River Township in Clinton County in 1840, and were founding members of St. Irenaeus parish. Their descendants have lived in Clinton County continuously since then.

Survivors include two sons, Michael J., Clinton, and Raymond J. (Carol), Los Angeles, Calif.; six grandchildren, Bridget, Andrew, Patrick, Michelle, Jennifer and David Kearney; and one step-granddaughter, Rachael Klaes. She is also survived by her older brother, Raymond J. Lynch, Bethesda, Md. Her parents; one brother, Edward J.(Catherine); one sister, Mrs. Paul B. Holleran (Lucille); and two sons, Richard and Joseph Edward, preceded her in death.
