Clinton - Edith L. Youmans age 98 of Clinton died Friday, June 3, 2011 at the Alverno Health Care Facility. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, June 9th at the Lyon’s United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the church and and from 10:00 A.M. until the service time Thursday, also at the church. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Camanche with a luncheon to follow at the church. Casket bearers will be Brian Driscoll, Randy McDaniel, Steve and Mark Youmans, Michael and Adam Wirth, Reese Petersen and Chad McDaniel. Honorary casket bearers will be Rick McDaniel, Clair McDanel, Dan, Bill and David Wright, Levi Rathje, Matt Youmans, Jason Millet, Jacob and Ben Youmans and Easton McDaniel.

Edith was born in Truro, Iowa on January 12, 1913, the daughter of Frank and Emma (Klein) McClelland. She graduated from Murray High School in 1930. Edith married Veral E. Youmans on June 4, 1930 in Council Bluffs. Veral died in 1983. She had worked in a dry cleaning plant in Omaha and later operated a restaurant in Macksburg, Iowa. Upon coming to Clinton, Edith worked at the Clinton Garment Factory, Swift & Company, Warren’s and later as a cook at the Alverno.
She also did babysitting and elder care.

Edith was a friend of the Lyon’s United Methodist Church and an associate of the Sisters of St. Francis. She was a member of Methodist Federation for Social Action. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family, reading and playing with her grandchildren, singing, reciting poetry and nursery rhythms, gardening, cooking, baking, fishing and boating on the river.

Edith is survived by two daughters, Carolyn McDanel (her husband Clair McDanel) of Clinton and Kathy Youmans Driscoll (her husband Brian Driscoll) of Camanche; 9 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 18 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Billy in 1995, a great-great grand daughter, Angelique Wright, son-in-law, Orian McDaniel, four sisters and two brothers.
