Miss Lois A. Miller, 91, Davenport, died early Thursday morning, May 26, 2011 at Westwing Place, DeWitt.

Lois Adra Miller was born June 8, 1919 at Grand Mound, to Albert E. and Adra (Walrod) Miller. She graduated from Grand Mound High School and from a two year Kindergarden Primary Course at Iowa State Teacher's College. Lois later received a four year degree from Iowa State Teacher's College. She taught first grade from 1948 until 1985 at Garfield School in Davenport. Lois gave private piano and organ lessons for many years. She enjoyed ballroom dancing and won various awards.

She was a lifetime member of the National Education Association, Iowa State Education Association, a charter member of Delta Kappa Gamma Honor Society and a life member of the Retired Teachers.

Survivors include nieces and nephews, Marilyn Bartee, Pensacola, Florida, Jeanette Wiggins, Rock Island, Illinois, Virginia Schurbon, Kooskia, Idaho, Guila Miller, Milan, Illinois, Richard Miller, Bettendorf; great nieces and nephews.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Elbert L. "Larsie", Howard and Gerald and sisters, Gladys Miller, Kathleen Garmon and Gertrude Miller and a niece, Beverly Grable.

Visitation will be from 1:00 until 1:45 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2001 at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. A funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Funeral Home. The Rev. Chuck Kelsey will officiate. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.
