Michael “Cookie” K. O’Leary, 65, of Camanche, died April 20, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center, North Campus, Clinton.
Funeral Services will be 1:00pm, Friday, April 22, 2011 at the Camanche Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be John Vovos, Dave Cavanaugh, Joe Hansen, Phil Weckwerth, Jeff Ludvigsen, and Joe Herkelman Visitation will be Friday from 10:00am to the service time at the funeral home.
Michael Kenneth O’Leary was born on May 22, 1945 in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Kenneth and Mary (Johnson) O’Leary. He was a 1964 graduate of Assumption High School in Davenport. He then enlisted in the United States Navy in 1965 serving until 1969.
Mike married Orvetta Werner on February 26, 1972 in Nichols, Iowa.
Mike was a salesman for Nabisco Company from 1970 until retiring in 2001.
Mike was an avid golfer. He enjoyed fishing and boating on the Mississippi River. He loved to travel especially vacationing in Hawaii. He enjoyed dancing with his wife and spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.
Mike is survived by his wife: Orvetta of Camanche; one daughter: Dawn (Chad) Rheingans of Park View, Iowa; five grandchildren: Siara O’Leary Hawk, Katelynn, Keaton, Carter, and Dawson Rheingans; four sisters: Diane Johnson of Davenport, Iowa, Kathy Rasmussen of Arizona, Peggy (Dennis) Green of Davenport, Iowa, and Bridgette (John) Drenter of Argo, Iowa; two brothers: Dan (Jeanette) O’Leary and Tim (Jean) O’Leary both of Davenport, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents and one son: Matthew in 1997.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Disabled American Veterans.
